Every year, the Senior High School inducts students into the HLCS Chapter of the NYS Mathematics Honor Society. Normally this is done in October. However, this year, it is being done this Spring via video due to COVID-19.

The purpose of the NYSMHS is to:
• Recognize students
• Enhance knowledge and understanding
• Enjoy math activities out of the classroom
• Create enthusiasm
• Promote math leadership
• Foster student collegiality
• Encourage students to the mathematics field
• Provide parents the opportunity to recognize and
appreciate the mathematical accomplishments of their
children

The Minimum Student Membership Requirements are to:
• Be a high school student with mathematics
scholarship, service, character and citizenship
• Have successfully completed a minimum of 3
semesters of High School Mathematics
• Have a minimum mathematics scholarship of 85% or
equivalent and overall scholastic average of 85% or
equivalent
• Submit 2 faculty recommendations
• Assist others by peer tutoring or perform mathematics
services in the Elementary and Junior/Senior High
School to maintain membership
